14 days to go

It’s been a while since my last blog entry. I have been busy working on my exhibition. It’s been a lot more work than I thought it would be but I have really been enjoying it. It’s been nice to live and breathe my art and to have my life taken over by it. I always spend a lot of time on my art but this reminds me of being in Fine Arts when your art becomes your life. Still one of my favourite times of my life, but back to my exhibition. All my paintings are done and half of them are wired for hanging. All the Photoshop work is done to my images and I am picking up the last set of prints tomorrow. All the pieces are named and labels have been drafted. Tomorrow I will be wiring the rest of my paintings and on Saturday I will be starting to frame my photographs. 24 of them to frame so it will take a while. And then I have to finish my installations… So there is still lots to do before the show is ready to be hung on March 21, but I know I will get it all done and I am going to enjoy every second of the preparation. What’s the saying “stop and smell the roses”… I have been really trying to live by that! I will keep you posted on my progress…

Back to work!

Exhibition poster and invite

I am so excited! I just received the printed posters and invites for my solo show. I wanted my materials to have the look and feel of a vintage travel poster and I am really happy with how they turned out.  A big thanks goes out to my friend Charity for the design and to Prolific for the printing. Now I just have to start promoting my show and of course finish all the pieces for my show.

Some serious studio time

I have been spending most of the weekend in my studio. It’s such a good feeling when inspiration creates this burst of creativity that just has to expressed through paint or other mediums. I love when all I think about is art. It even takes over my dreams and ideas are constantly flowing. It’s just such an amazing feeling and it makes me feel so alive.

While I was at the studio today I saw the current exhibition at cre8ery “INAKA’s new works in antler and wood by Reg and Jamie Kucey”. Both Reg and Jamie are incredibly talented and I was really blown away by their art. The show is only on for two more days. Make sure to check it out as you won’t be disappointed!

Nostalgia

I have been going through childhood pictures for my solo show and it’s been making me feel nostalgic. So many memories that are flooding into my head and heart. I really did have a wonderful childhood and I wish I didn’t live so far away from my family.

Here are a few of the pictures. What are your favourite childhood pictures and memories?

The countdown is on

The opening of my solo exhibition is exactly 7 months away! I have a good start and I do feel better about it then a month ago. But when I think about it only being 7 months away I do start to feel a bit nauseous. I just got back from a night in my studio. I have 3 paintings finished and I am working on a very large piece right now. I am also planning on incorporating some installations, photography and maybe some Polaroid transfers. I have a first draft of my artist statement and I have started a large to-do list containing everything from a press release, invitations, posters, food to music etc.

It’s going to be 7 months of spending every spare minute in my studio. It feels exciting, scary, overwhelming, invigorating and inspirational. I just have to tell myself that I can do this.

Check back for some updates on my process.

213 days!

At the market

I wanted to thank everybody who came to the Forks Market to support me and to check out my spring collection. It was 2 days full of meeting great new people and having a chance to show off my work. I even managed to participate in the chocolate festival and taste some incredible chocolate treats. The Forks Market really is an inspiring place to be at. I am planning on being back to sell my work at the Forks a few times this summer by participating in the Outdoor Farmers Market.

If you missed me this week-end and are looking for the perfect gift for mother’s day just give me a call or send me a quick e-mail to arrange a time to come by my studio (p. 204.510.3939, anjastudios@shaw.ca).

Wish I was there

I wish I could have been in New York this week-end for the opening reception of “The sketchbook project” exhibition. It have never not been at the opening reception of an art show that I have had art work in. Too bad. I just have to make it work to go see the exhibit in one of the US cities it’s going to. Maybe Washington DC in April or Chicago in July. I will let you know once I have a trip planned.
